An unlimited-ride pass sounds simple, but choosing one starts with the journey you actually plan to make. Unlock Korea’s Climate Card introduction is a useful prompt to prepare for Seoul transport—and a reminder to check the rules behind an older social post.

This visitor guide reflects official information reviewed on October 21, 2026, rather than repeating the original 2025 monthly-pass advice.

Start with the Current Short-Term Product

Seoul’s official Climate Card notice says recharging the old 30-day prepaid pass ended on August 31, 2026. The existing physical card can still hold 1-, 2-, 3-, 5-, or 7-day short-term passes. Do not plan a tourist trip around the retired monthly recharge.

Choose the number of travel days only after checking your likely journeys and the current fare shown at purchase. A pass is not automatically the cheapest choice for a day spent mostly walking in one neighborhood.

Check Coverage Before You Buy

An October 1, 2026 city notice describes short-term coverage as Seoul-area subway travel and Seoul-licensed city and village buses, including night and circulation services, with an Incheon Airport terminal alighting provision. It explicitly excludes previously covered surrounding areas such as Gimpo, Goyang, Gwacheon, Guri, Seongnam, Hanam, and Namyangju.

Use the official service-range search for the exact stations and bus, particularly for an airport journey or a trip beyond Seoul. Airport alighting permission is not a general promise of a covered return trip from the airport. Do not assume every regional train, express bus, or bicycle rental is included.

Buying and Using the Card

The physical card is reusable: Seoul’s current FAQ says you do not need to buy a new one for each recharge. It also says a physical card can be used after charging without registration, although registration is needed for features such as refunds and lost-card reporting. Follow the current instructions for your chosen product and device.

For an easier first journey, buy and check the pass before you reach a busy platform, confirm its validity period, and tap in and out as required. Keep a separate payment option for journeys outside its coverage.

The original graphics containing old monthly prices and wider service-area claims have been omitted.
