F-Class Visas in Korea: Understanding Residence, Permanent Residence and Marriage Migration

Read the Visa Categories Carefully

The original 2025 cards introduce F-2, F-5 and F-6 at a high level. They simplify rules and should not be used as an eligibility checklist.

Start with Your Specific Circumstances

Different routes have different requirements. Marriage, time in Korea or employment alone does not automatically establish eligibility for every category.

F-2: Residence

F-2 is a residence category with multiple subtypes. Do not assume every F-2 holder is on a points-based route or has identical employment permissions. Confirm the rules for the exact subtype.

F-5: Permanent Residence

F-5 is permanent residence, but the card’s “no renewals” wording should not be read as removing all documentation and reporting obligations. Time spent on F-2 alone does not guarantee approval.

F-6: Marriage Migration

F-6 is marriage migration. Eligibility, supporting documents and permitted activities must be checked for the applicable situation. The card’s general descriptions do not establish a personal entitlement.

Check Official Requirements

Use Korea Visa Portal and HiKorea for current guidance, or consult the immigration office handling your case. Verify subtype-specific requirements and obligations before applying.
